Thanks to the project, we have developed training modules for teachers on counteracting domestic violence. We have also prepared methodological materials for trainers.
The most important outcome of the project was receiving training accreditation as part of the teacher’s education system conducted by the Ministry of Education in Georgia. The developed training is the first training on domestic violence of this kind that educators can participate in.During the training courses, we have also educated trainers prepared to work with teachers.
As part of our activities, we have also prepared numerous trainings for teachers, both in offline and online mode. All this in order to sensitize them to the signs of domestic violence – how to recognize this phenomenon and how to respond to it effectively. Moreover, our actions aimed at counteracting domestic violence also extended to parents and students. We organized educational and informational meetings for the former.
As part of educational hours and civic education lessons, students had the opportunity to learn more about the mechanisms accompanying domestic violence, find out where to seek help. The action reached 280 students from Georgian schools.
Two “Master webinars” were particularly popular:
– “How to support a student experiencing violence” by Przemek Staroń – Global Teacher Prize 2020 Finalist
– “The role of the teacher in the domestic violence prevention system” led by V. Aphazav, Global Teacher Prize 2019 Finalist
The authority of the panelists allowed the webinars to reach new recipients and increase the group of people involved in the project’s activities.
students participated in the campaign to counteract violence
participants who tuned in for the master webinars conducted by well-known experts
teachers, specialists and also parents of students took part in trainings and educational meetings on responding to domestic violence
Case study
“Thank you for this training. Today I finally realized that I myself am a victim of domestic violence” – said one of the teachers to the trainers conducting the workshops.
Did this confession surprise them? No.
It is significant that after almost every training on counteracting domestic violence in Georgia – be it for doctors, teachers or social workers – our trainers are approached by at least one person who admits that they have discovered they are in a violent relationship.
It happened during one of the trainings conducted by the HumanDoc Foundation that a policeman participating in the classes on identifying and responding to domestic violence after the course admitted that… he was a perpetrator of domestic violence himself.
On the one hand, it shows us that our work makes sense. That the trainings reach those they were supposed to reach. On the other hand, despite the systematic activities that we have been carrying out in Georgia for several years, we can see how much we still have to do.

The project “Pilot training program for teachers and education of students and parents in the field of counteracting domestic violence in Lanchkhuti municipality” was co-financed by the Polish-American Freedom Foundation as part of the RITA – Region in Transition, implemented by the Education for Democracy Foundation.
